Mission Statement: The Mission of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA) Student Senate (GSS) is to organize educational programs and opportunities to meet the needs of the GLATA students, and to develop the athletic training leaders of tomorrow.

The GLATA Student Senate is excited to announce that the very first Preceptor of the Year is Brandon Donahue from Winona State University in Minnesota!! Thank you all for the nominations, there were many excellent candidates!!

The GLATA Influential Individuals Project aims to recognize individuals within the athletic training profession in the US and within District 4 that have made an impact on our profession, and has helped shape what it is today. We hope to educate GLATA Students about these individuals, and provide them the opportunity to network and reach out to these professionals.
Madison is from Winfield, IL and graduated from Wheaton North High School. She is currently finishing her sophomore year at Hope College in Holland, MI. As Vice-Chair, Madison assists the Chair and other members of the GSS throughout the year. She also facilitates the collection and distribution of the monthly committee and state reports before the monthly conference calls. Additionally as Vice-Chair, she collects and organizes GSS Alumni information. Madison has worked with women’s soccer, men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse while at Hope College. She is also a MATS Student Committee member and is an active member of the Hope College Athletic Training Student Council. In her free time, Madison enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as cheering on all her favorite Chicago sports teams. Madison plans to attend graduate school for her Masters in Athletic Training after graduating from Hope, eventually earning her PhD and becoming a professor.
Marin is from Wauseon, Ohio, and is currently completing her junior year at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. On the GLATA Student Senate, she serves as secretary and an Ohio representative. As secretary, Marin records meeting minutes and creates the GSS Newsletters, and serves as a liaison between the OATA Student Senate and the GLATA Student Senate as the Ohio representative. As an athletic training student at Heidelberg, Marin has worked with Heidelberg football, men's soccer, softball, and a local high school. Outside of athletic training, she enjoys reading, running, and painting. After graduation, Marin plans to work as an athletic training GA while earning a Master's degree.
GLATA Quiz Bowl Co-Coordinator
Bianca is from Fond du Lac, WI. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School and is currently a junior in the athletic training program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. As one of the quiz bowl co-coordinators, she helps create athletic training specific questions, plan the event and set up the venue. Bianca has worked clinically at several high schools in the Oshkosh area and with the UW Oshkosh football, track and field, and women’s basketball teams. Outside of school, she enjoys playing soccer and golf, cooking, and being with family. Bianca’s future plan is going to graduate school for her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, and to someday work for a professional women’s soccer team.
Erin is from New Berlin, WI and is currently finishing up her junior year at Winona State University in Winona, MN. Erin serves as the Webmaster and Public Relations Coordinator. As Webmaster, Erin coordinates with the GLATA Web Team to update the student section of the GLATA website and keep students in District IV informed. She also manages the GLATA Students Facebook and Twitter accounts. As public relations appointee, Erin communicates with students throughout District IV regarding athletic training fundraisers, programs, and activities. Clinically, Erin has worked with the WSU football, Women’s basketball, Women’s soccer, and track teams. Her hobbies outside of athletic training includes spending time with friends and family, playing sports, being outdoors, and listening to music. Erin hopes to get a GA position after she graduates to get her Master’s Degree and eventually work in the Military/Law Enforcement setting.
Sponsorship and Donations Co-Coordinator
Jackie is currently a sophomore attending Bethel University in St. Paul MN. She graduated from St. Francis High School and lived in St. Francis MN. Along with majoring in Athletic Training, she is also minoring in Leadership and Psychology. Having the role of Sponsorship and Donations Co-Coordinator, she works with different companies, athletic training education programs, and various organizations throughout District 4. Jackie’s favorite athletic teams to work with are Men’s Hockey, Woman’s Basketball, Woman’s Volleyball, Football and Baseball. Outside of school, she enjoys riding and training horses, working with children of various ages at a summer horse camp, playing any sport, and hanging out with my friends and family. When she graduates from Bethel University, Jackie plans on continuing her education by attending graduate school while working in a GA position. Her future goal is to work as an Athletic Trainer for the Olympic Training Center.
General Workshop Coordinator
Jake is from Vernon Hills, Illinois and graduated from Vernon Hills High School in 2014. He is currently a Sophomore athletic training student at Illinois State University. Jake currently works with the Illinois State Football team. He serves as the General Workshop Coordinator for the GLATA Student Senate. The position involves helping to find the BOC preparation presenter and learning lab presenters and aiding with their presentations. Jake is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, ISULeads, and Alternative Spring Breaks. In his free time, Jake loves watching all sports but most specifically the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He hopes to work with a football team at the collegiate or professional level in the future.
Professor Bates serves as Associate Dean of Health Sciences, AT Program Director, and Associate Professor at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. Prior to becoming a GSS advisor, he served two terms as the OATA Vice President of Association Affairs working alongside the ATS, OSS, YPC, SSC, and COR committees. At Heidelberg, Prof. Bates serves as a member of the Minds @ Work Student Research Conference Committee and the Academic Leadership Team. Clinically, he has been a medical volunteer for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon since 2008. Personally, Prof. Bates is a Chicago (IL) native who loves to travel and is a proud husband and father of two boys. In the fall of 2016, he will earn his Doctorate in Health Sciences. Prof. Bates' goal as an advisor to the GSS is to contribute to supporting students on their journey to become intellectually and emotionally intelligent professionals.
EBP Courses Available from GLATA
Your association has partnered with Innovative CEUs to provide home study access to the Evidence Based Practice (EBP) CEU course which we offer at the Annual Meeting. Combining the audio and Powerpoint slides from our Annual Meeting, participants have access to the latest research from leading authorities in clinical care and evidence based practice. Following the completion of each course, participants will complete the online quiz to retrieve their certificates.
